Pelvic Tuck

What is it and why do it?

Pelvic tuck is a technique wherein the wearer “scoops” or “tucks” the legs to achieve its optimum position (J-shaped spine) when using a carrier.

Why is it better to perform a pelvic tuck?
• opens airway
• respectful to the current anatomy of the child being worn
• encourages J-shaped spine
• promotes M-shaped position of the legs and hips for healthy hip development

Photo on the left is seen usually before we perform the so called pelvic tuck. It is usually observed right after we place our baby in the carrier. That position can sometimes cause discomfort even if the carrier we use is an ergonomic one.
