What comes to mind when we see a buckled carrier?
EASY TO USE!
Yes, that’s true.
Buckled carriers, among all the types of carriers, offers the most easy-to-use, great-for-any-weather, dad-friendly type of sling. Nowadays, it comes in a wide range of options–some can be worn from newborn to toddler, some are padded, some have zippered panel for more airflow, some have detachable shoulders for cross-back buckled carries, and so on. Plus, they come in a lot of varied designs and patterns that appeal to most babywearers! Simple, minimalist can go with almost all OOTDs while vibrant, striking designs definitely bring out one’s unique personal taste!

What are the different parts of a Buckled Carrier (most common parts)?
1. Panel – this is the strong fabric where the baby leans its back into. It is also where the waistband and the shoulder strap is attached to. For utmost safety, baby’s head must not be below the upper rail of the panel — this is to ensure that the baby’s airway is clear from any obstruction
2. Shoulder straps – these are the two straps that hang into the babywearer’s shoulders.
3. Chest clip – this is the little buckle that is found on the mid-part of the shoulder straps, this clip ensures that the shoulder strap stays in place
4. Waist band – thick band of fabric (sometimes padded) that is found on the bottom part of the back panel. It supports the baby’s bum and thighs.

The biggest question is — IS IT FOR ME?
To generalize the use of a carrier is very atrocious. We tend to forget that each of us is unique and that includes our needs, wants, anatomy, lifestyle and so on.
I can only guide you with hints but the best way to know is to seek out consult or try out a buckled carrier in a sling library. This is one of the reasons why consultants and sling librarians exist – to help you match with the most well-fitting carrier for you at the moment.
Get a buckled carrier if:
You find it easier to just wear your baby in an easy click-and-pull way
Your lifestyle is always on-the-go
You are a frequent traveller and you bring kids with you
You prefer a two-shoulder carry
Remember, a small price to pay for a consult is a lot cheaper than buying an inappropriate carrier, and not to mention a safer move too!
as always,
